Our Vision As part of Plymouth-Canton Community Schools and the Plymouth-Canton community, we will provide an educational program that promotes the success of alternative and adult learners.
General Starkweather Info: The Alternative/Adult Education program for the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools is housed at Starkweather Academy. It includes a high school completion program, with a cap & gown graduation ceremony, as well as English as a Second Language program and GED prep. We run two semesters: Fall, which begins in September and Winter, which begins in January.
Our students must have enrolled a full year at a high school or be at least sixteen-years old before September 1st of the current school year. We accept students from any district within the state of Michigan.
Classes are free to anyone who is at least sixteen-years-old (by September 1st of the current school year), who does not possess a diploma and is not enrolled in any other high school completion program. Classes are also free to anyone who has a GED certificate but no diploma. Based on availability all classes are also open for adults with a high school diploma or students enrolled in an area high school for tuition.
All classes meet 4 hours each week. A standard full day student will take 6 or 7 classes each semester Monday through Friday. Six (6) classes meet one hour a day on Mondays from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and 90 minutes on Tuesday/Wednesday or Thursday/Friday from 9 a.m.-2:20 p.m. A 7th period is offered on a limited basis from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday-Friday. Busing is available for in district students to school at 9:00 a.m. and home at 3:30 p.m. daily. Students must contact transportation at 734-416-3032 to receive bus pick-up/drop off location and time.
